NCLEX-PN questions

How is NCLEX-PN different from NCLEX-RN?

Both exams use the same 4 Client Needs categories and 5 Integrated Processes, but the weights differ and PN content is scoped to LPN/LVN practice. PN emphasizes Coordinated Care (18–24% vs RN Management of Care 15–21%) reflecting the coordination role. Clinical scenarios assume supervised practice.

Is NCLEX-PN easier than NCLEX-RN?

Slightly higher first-time pass rate (~79% vs ~73%), but not because the exam is easier — the scope and expectations are narrower. Candidates still need 6–10 weeks of focused prep.

Can I take NCLEX-PN then NCLEX-RN later?

Yes, this is a common career ladder. LPNs often return to school for RN then sit NCLEX-RN. Your NCLEX-PN pass does not exempt you from NCLEX-RN — they are separate exams.

How long should I study for NCLEX-PN?

Most candidates study 4–8 weeks at 15–20 hours per week. Budget longer if you graduated more than 3 months ago or struggled on content in school.
